5-9 OCT ONLINE EVENT

EO for Agriculture under Pressure

Registration

EO for Agriculture under Pressure online event will be live streamed and open for viewing to everyone. The live stream link will be accessible from the home page.

Registered participants will have access to the sessions, content, interactions and functionalities.

As a registered participant, you will be able to:

  • participate in all five sessions with the possibility of commenting, asking questions and responding to polls in real-time;
  • provide your inputs and discuss in the virtual recommendations booths which will stay open from Monday morning to Friday evening.

JOIN CODE: AGUP

There will be one virtual booth for each of the five session topics. In the booths participants will be able to state and discuss their views on what should be priority issues to address by scientific and development activities in the years to come, and also recommendations to EC and ESA on how to address these issues via their respective programmes (i.e. Horizon Europe and FutureEO).

After your registration is confirmed, you will receive an email with the details to access the virtual event on Brella, which is the official event platform for the EO for Agriculture under Pressure 2020 online event.

Interactive session debating which scientific issues joint EC-ESA activities should address and in what way

Scientific Objectives

The overall goal of the event is to identify main EO research challenges in monitoring agriculture and will be pursued by addressing a number of scientific objectives:

  • Discuss the role of EO for supporting evidence-based decisions for improving food security at national to global scale
  • Explore novel EO observation capabilities to advance the scientific basis to support resilience of agricultural productivity to climate change
  • Discuss how to transfer EO science results into mitigation measures and alternative management tools for a sustainable, climate-neutral agriculture
  • Exchange on latest developments of innovative algorithms and applications for agricultural monitoring including integration of in-situ data and modelling approaches
  • Discuss EO applications for monitoring of agricultural practices, irrigation management, water productivity, fertilizer and crop protection optimization, impact assessment of crop diseases and natural hazards, crop yield estimations and forecasts and pasture monitoring
  • Demonstrate the use of EO for policy relevant reporting and monitoring obligations such as the UN 2030 SDGs, the EU’s Green Deal, the Area Monitoring System of the CAP and national agricultural statistics
  • Integrate innovative technologies such as Big data analysis, digital platforms, Artificial Intelligence, drones, crowd-sourcing and Internet of Things in agricultural monitoring
  • Explore the potential of planned and future missions for food security and agriculture, e.g. the expansion and the next generation of the Sentinels, FLEX, new space and commercial satellite constellations
  • Provide inputs to guide ESA scientific agenda in the agricultural sector including ESA’s FutureEO program and collaboration with RTD on Food Systems and climate adaptation

Organisation

Due to the COVID-19 outbreak and the guidance by relevant authorities and ESA, the Organising Committee decided to replace the workshop foreseen to take place in ESRIN, Frascati 25-29 May 2020 by the following two events:

  1. Online event 5-9 October 2020
  2. Workshop in ESRIN, Frascati mid-2021 (dates still to be decided)

The online event aims at identifying main EO research challenges in monitoring agriculture. It will consist of five sessions of two hours each and will allow only a limited number of presentations based on the abstracts submitted in February (see Programme).
Presenters will be informed by 8 September.

For the 2021 workshop there will be a new call for abstracts.

Language and fees

No participation fees will be charged.
The official language of the workshop is English.
